Between 1907 - 1920 The Ocean Shore Rail Road operated along the coastline between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay.
Building the railroad was a huge construction challenge, creating track beds out of cliff sides, tunnels through rocky outcrops and road cuts through hills.
The rail line operated for almost 15 years, bringing tourists to newly created "resorts" and creating some of the coastal culture we now know.
Remnants are still visible near the Pedro Pt. Headlands and Rockaway Beach.
