The South Ridge Trail climbs steeply from the park entrance along the Headland’s open south ridge, providing views in all directions. From various points you can see north and east to Pacifica, south to Montara Mountain, and west across the ocean. The trail provides a great view of the new Devil's Slide tunnels and trail.
The trail is mostly south-facing coastal scrub, with patches of valley needle grass prairie. Stands of mature pine trees and blue blossom scrub line the upper portions. Other plants include coffee berry, coyote brush, California sagebrush, tower of jewels, poison oak, and seaside wooly sunflower. This is the only place in the Headlands where the Franciscan paintbrush grows.
